Cyber City Oedo : Overview

In 29th Century Tokyo, cyber-criminals are recruited to do the dangerous jobs in the police force in exchange for reductions in their sentence. To make sure they do what they're meant to, they wear collars which are made to explode, just a push of a button by Hasegawa, head of Cyber Police. A 3-part OAV series, Cyber City Oedo 808 follows the adventures of 3 such cyber-police, Sengoku Syunsuke, Merill Yanagawa (Benten), and Gabimaru Rikiya (Gogul).

File 1 : Virtual Death

This episode focuses on Sengoku, who is by far the most violent (and therefore my favourite :) ) of the 3. A hacker has taken over the main computer system of the Oedo city spacescraper, which happens to have links to the main military computer system... It's only a matter of time, and Sengoku and friends have to find the hacker and shut him down for good!

Rating : ***** (out of 5)

File 2 : Psychic Trooper

The 2nd in this series of 3 concentrates on the mohawked ace hacker, Gogul. When an old partner of his shows up with most of Oedo's armed forces after her, it's not exactly a walk in the park, and when the army's latest weapon is pitted against him, Gogul must fight for his life, literally!

Rating : **** (out of 5)

File 3 : Blood Lust

Someone is murdering genetic scientists by biting them in the neck, and Benten is on the case. Can it really be a vampire? Well, anything's possible in Oedo, as Benten is about to find out!

Rating : ****1/2 (out of 5)

Uppers : Excellent cyber-punk setting, great music, great characters, good storylines, violence, swearing, what more could you want?

Downers : Only 3 episodes :)
